The subjects from the sentence of above is “Each day” and the verb is “Practiced”.

The sentence of above is “Wrong”, and the correct sentence is “Each day was practicing the piano for hours”. The correct sentence like it, is called “Past Progressive Continous”. Use the following rule to form the past progressive is ( Subject + was/were + verb (ing) ).

1.                  During the meeting in the office discussed the schedule.

The sentence of above is “Right”. Because “During” is usually followed by a noun indicating time. The word “in” is a preposition. At the explain of before, we have knew if a preposition is followed by a noun or pronoun that is called an object of the preposition. So, the word of “ the meeting” is a noun.

TOEFL EXERCISE ( Skills 1-2) : Choose the letter of the word of group of words that best completes the sentence.

The correct answer is D ( It Occupied Them). Because “Of” is preposition that always followed by noun or pronoun. The word of “Them” is Pronoun of  “New England”. The “Occupied” of the answer is indicate “ a past sentence”.
